Things to do in Amsterdam

Image
Amsterdam Every year, to celebrate my birthday, I travel somewhere, in 2019 I went to Morocco , in 2020 to Israel and this year (2022) I decided to visit Amsterdam. It was a long time since I wanted to visit this city and there I have a friend that I wanted to see, so with these three points combined, I decided to visit Amsterdam in winter. I spent five days in Amsterdam and I visited the city plus some places outside like Zaanse Schans, Zandvoort and Haarlem. One important thing is that I forgot my camera so all the pictures were taken with my phone, maybe the quality is not high but I think they are anyway beautiful. Amsterdam is the capital and the most populous city of the Netherlands, with a population close to a million. It is colloquially referred to as the "Venice of the north" due to the large number of canals which form a UNESCO world heritage site since 2010. Amsterdam was founded at the Amstel, the city's name derives from the Amstel dam, originating as a sm

Things to do in Iceland, The Golden Circle

Iceland As I said in the previous post, I went to Iceland for 10 days volunteer work camp during new year's eve in 2018.  Iceland is volcanoes, glaciers, geysers, waterfalls, wild nature; and this is what you are looking for when you go there. During that 10 days, we did 3 excursions from Reykjavik, and here I talk about the first one. Golden circle The Golden Circle is the most touristic route in southern Iceland. It covers about 300 km looping from the southern highlands and back. The name is a marketing term, derived from the Gullfoss waterfall, which means "golden waterfall". Compared to the other two, this was the excursion I enjoyed less, mainly because of the tourists, who made the places crowded. But this didn't impact how amazing are these places. Kerið The lake The first stop of the circle was at the Kerið lake, which is located in the Grímsnes area in south Iceland. It is one of the several crater lakes in the area, known as Iceland's western volcanic z

Things to do in Iceland, Reykjavik

Iceland I travel to Iceland for 10 days in December 2018, I had accommodation in Reykjavik and from there I visited the island doing excursions .  Iceland is an amazing place, with a lot of wild nature to see. In this post, I will talk about the things to do in Reykyavik, that deserve also to be visited. Reykjavik It is Iceland's capital and the biggest city, but anyway a small town compared to European's capitals, 130000 inhabitants, my hometown Vicenza has 115000. It is a typical city of the north of Europe, it has everything you need from a modern city, and I felt safe and welcome while I was there. If you go visit Iceland, for sure, you don't do it for Reykjavik, but for the nature that the country can offer.    Hallgrimskirkja It is a Lutheran church, situated in the city centre and it is the landmark of Reykjavik. It is the largest church in Iceland and the tallest building in the country.  The design reminds me of the trap rocks, mountains and glaciers of Iceland'

Things to do in Morocco, Essaouira, Agadir

Image
Morocco Back from the desert, we slept one night in Marrakesh and the day after we took a bus to Essaouira, where we stayed for one night and then travelled by another bus to Agadir, where our trip was ending. I really enjoyed Essaouira, we should have stayed a day more, it's small but it needs at least 2 days; Agadir it's nice but the best part was our host: an open, curious, person that makes feel us pampered. In this part of the trip, we understood how to use public transportation in Morocco, not the touristic busses but the local ones. We learned that we had to bargain for the price and that there is no timetable, just go there, decide a maximum price you want to pay and go. Essaouira White and blue Essaouira is a city in the western part of Morocco on the Atlantic ocean, it's a strategic position made the importance of the city that was Portuguese till 1790, after it steps by step it became the first harbour in Morocco. We arrived there in the first afternoon, and we l

Things to do in Morocco, Merzouga

Merzouga We did 3 days organised tour from Marrakesh to Merzouga, thanks to our host in Marrakesh we found, for a nice price, the possibility to see the desert. Usually, I try to avoid these organised tours because I prefer the experience to do it by myself, I think it's more authentic and also I can know better the reality of the place. In this case, we decided to do it because the host suggested that is the safest way to go to the desert.  Atlas mountains Atlas The first part of the trip was on the Atlas mountains because which separate the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean from the Sahara desert, our destination. The word mountain in some Berber languages is Adrar or Adras, these terms are believed to be cognates of the atlas. I was lucky to find this fog that gave a strange atmosphere to the picture: it was sunny but with the fog, there was the snow but my destination was the desert. It's a long way if you wanna rock n roll The highest peak of
