Things to do in Amsterdam

Image
Amsterdam Every year, to celebrate my birthday, I travel somewhere, in 2019 I went to Morocco , in 2020 to Israel and this year (2022) I decided to visit Amsterdam. It was a long time since I wanted to visit this city and there I have a friend that I wanted to see, so with these three points combined, I decided to visit Amsterdam in winter. I spent five days in Amsterdam and I visited the city plus some places outside like Zaanse Schans, Zandvoort and Haarlem. One important thing is that I forgot my camera so all the pictures were taken with my phone, maybe the quality is not high but I think they are anyway beautiful. Amsterdam is the capital and the most populous city of the Netherlands, with a population close to a million. It is colloquially referred to as the "Venice of the north" due to the large number of canals which form a UNESCO world heritage site since 2010. Amsterdam was founded at the Amstel, the city's name derives from the Amstel dam, originating as a sm...

Nara Temples, Things to do in Nara, Japan | Travel Blog

Image
Nara In Autumn 2019 I travelled for one month in Japan, I volunteered for two weeks in a village in Kyushu island and for the other two, I visited the most famous cities in the country. Nara is a small village close to Osaka , and not far from Kyoto. It's famous because there are free deers, they are sacred animals there, and for its temples. I've been there just half a day, and it could be enough if you don't have more time, but I could have stayed more because it's an amazing village, with a lot of opportunities to take nice pictures and have nice memories. Kofukuji Nan'endō This is the first temple on the way from the railway station to the city centre. In the picture, there is the south octagonal hall, an important cultural property. This building is site n 9 of the  Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, which   is a pilgrimage of 33   Buddhist   temples throughout the   Kansai   region.  It is traditional for pilgrims to wear whit...

Korea-Japan 7th part Osaka

Osaka To be honest, I didn't enjoy this city, probably because I was really tired, it was almost a month that I was travelling, and I was looking forward to see Kyoto, which everyone said was amazing. Doesn't mean that Osaka didn't give me the opportunity to know nice people, visit beautiful places and learn something. Imperial castle  School trip The first thing I visited in Osaka was the castle; it was really crowded, probably because it was a Saturday. There was foreign and Japanese tourists, but also students: I like to photograph Japanese students because of the uniforms, and because they are tidy. Nel blu dipinto di blu The Osaka Castle is an important symbol in Japan: it was built in 1583 by  the shogun  Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who unified the country. But during the civil war of 1615 it burnt down. It was then rebuilt during the reign of the Tokugawa clan (1603 - 1867). The most of the castle's structures burnt down again in 1868 due to an...

Things to do in Hiroshima, Miyajima

Image
Hiroshima In autumn 2019 I travelled for one month in Japan, I volunteered for two weeks in Minamata, in Kyushu Island, the other two weeks I visited some cities like Tokyo and Kyoto .  Hiroshima was the second city I visited on my Japan tour, I passed here only one day and it was a mistake: Hiroshima it's really beautiful with a lot to offer; now I think that I should have rescheduled my plans and given more time to this city. I had the time only to visit the Memorial Park, with the Peace Memorial Museum, a bit around of it and the Miyajima island. Peace Memorial Park Memorial Park This park became the centre of the rebirth of the city, it's a place where you can feel peace and at the same time commemorate, learn, don't forget what happened on August 6th 1945. The location of the Peace Memorial Park was once the city's busiest downtown commercial and residential district, the park was built on an open field that was created by the explosion. The park...

Korea-Japan 5th part Fukuoka

Fukuoka From here started my real Japan trip, I had to go back to Tokyo and I decided to do it stopping in the main Japanese cities. The first one was Fukuoka, the biggest city in Kyshyu island. I really enjoyed this city, I didn't expected such a nice city with a lot to give. Nanzoin temple A peaceful place  This temple is a bit outside Fukuoka, half an hour by train.  It is really a peaceful place, not really touristic, surrounded by a forest. It is possible to feel the holiness of the place, and have the time to enjoy yourself. Buddha The temple is famous for the big Buddha. It's  41 meters l ong , 11 meters high, and 300 tons.  The statue depicts Buddha at the moment of death .   It's the most famous part of the temple, but not the only one.   Into the woods In Nanzoin there's a path in the woods, where you can find a small temple and a lot of divinity statues to idolise. ...
